『この話が好きねリースは。むかしむかし、ある所にとても美しい姫と、伝説の剣に選ばれた王子がいました』

子供の頃……母様から聞いたとある物語が私は大好きでした。

タイトルは『竜の王子様』で、子供に読み聞かせる有り触れた物語です。

とある王国の姫様が悪い竜の呪いを受け、その呪いを解く為に伝説の剣を手にした王子が竜を倒しに旅へ出ます。
王子は辛く厳しい旅を続け、ついに竜を退治する事が出来ました。
だけど竜を退治して姫の呪いが解けると、悪い隣国の王子が姫様と無理矢理結婚しようとするのです。
姫様が悲しむ中でも結婚式が行われますが、途中で竜の背に乗った王子が結婚式に飛び込んでくるのです。
竜は王子に倒された事により改心し、王子の仲間になっていたのです。
会場の人達が竜に怯える中、王子は悪い王子から姫様を救い出し、竜の背に乗ってその場を後にしました。
そして二人は遠く離れた地で末永く幸せに暮らしました……という内容です。

そんな子供向けの内容ですが、今でも私は大好きです。
物語を聞く度に、私にもいつか伝説の剣を手に、竜の背に乗った王子様が現れるんだと……ずっと夢見ていたからです。
それは物語の中だけだと理解出来る年になっても私は……。



私が生まれた時にはすでに父様はいませんでした。母様は遠くに行かれたと言いましたが、私はもう亡くなっているんだと勝手に思い諦めていました。
ですが、私は母様がいれば十分でした。
元冒険者で、女手一つで私を育てあげた母様。そんな母様から惜しみない愛情を注いでもらい、父様がいなくても寂しくありませんでした。

そして私が八歳の時に母様は亡くなりました。
悲しみに暮れる毎日を過ごし、それがようやく治まり始めた頃……一人の男性が私の元に訪れました。

差出人はカーディアスと名乗る王様で私の父様である事。母様が亡くなる前に送った手紙によって私の身柄を引き取りたいという内容でした。お金も少なく、母様が手紙を送ったという事は私を引き取らせるつもりだったと思い、私は父様の元へ向かう事を決めました。

その男性の案内で私はエリュシオンへ到着し、城へ案内されて父様と初めて顔を合わせました。
ですが初めて会った父様の目は冷たいものでした。淡々と私の状況を語り続け、私は庶子で王位継承権は無いに等しい事や、この城で過ごすなら目立つ行為はするなと、そこらの石を見ているように全く興味がない目で私を見続けていました。
